Our Beliefs and Mission

Beliefs

God

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe and exists eternally as three co-equal persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He is all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present, never-changing, completely trustworthy, and holy. His very essence is good. He is our loving Father who is faithful to his people and his promises.

Genesis 1:1, Genesis 1:26-27, Genesis 3:22, Psalm 90:2, Matthew 28:19, 1 Peter 1:2, 2 Corinthians 13:14

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is both completely human and completely God. He lived a completely sinless human life and was crucified on a cross, dying in our place for our sins so that we may be reconciled with God. After three days he rose bodily from the dead to demonstrate his victory over sin and death. He ascended to heaven and will return again to reign forever as King of Kings.

Matthew 1:22-23, Isaiah 9:6, John 1:1-5, John 14:10-30, Hebrews 4:14-15, 1 Corinthians 14:3-4, Romans 1:3-4, Acts 1:9-11, 1 Timothy 6:14-15, Titus 2:13

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity and is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He lives in every believer from the moment of salvation and provides us understanding in spiritual truth and guidance in doing what is right. The Holy Spirit's presence assures us of our relationship with Christ. He guides believers into all truth and convicts people of their sin. He comforts us, gives us spiritual gifts, and makes us more like Christ.

2 Corinthians 3:17, John 16:7-13, John 14:16-17, Acts 1:8, 1 Corinthians 2:12, 1 Corinthians 3:16, Ephesians 1:13, Galatians 5:25, Ephesians 5:18

The Trinity

God exists as one being in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Although each member of the Trinity serves different functions, they each possess equal power and authority.

Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19, Isaiah 61:1, Mark 1:9-11, Luke 1:35, John 5:21-23, John 14:10, John 14:16, Romans 8:9-11, 1 Corinthians 8:6, 2 Corinthians 13:14, Hebrews 1:8-10, James 2:19

The Bible

The Bible is God's holy written word. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the ultimate source of truth for Christians, giving testimonies of God’s character, stories of Jesus Christ’s life and ministry, as well as instruction and wisdom for daily life.

2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Timothy 1:13, Psalm 119:105, Psalm 119:160, Psalm 12:6, Proverbs 30:5

Humanity

Humankind was made in the image of God, created to be in a perfect relationship with him. We became alienated from him through our own disobedience, which the Bible calls sin. We are incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through our own efforts, which is why God sent his Son Jesus to take the penalty for our sin so that we may be reconciled with God.

Genesis 1:27, Psalm 8:3-6, Isaiah 53:6, Romans 3:23, Colossians 1:21, Isaiah 59:1-2, Genesis 1:26-30, Genesis 2:7, Genesis 2:18-22, Psalm 8:3-6, Psalm 32:1-5, Psalm 51:5, Isaiah 6:5, Jeremiah 17:5, Acts 17:26-31, Romans 1:19-32, Romans 3:10-18, Romans 3:23, Romans 5:6, Romans 6:6, Romans 7:14-25, 1 Corinthians 1:21-31, 1 Corinthians 15:19, 1 Corinthians 15:21-22, Ephesians 2, Colossians 1:21-22, Colossians 3:9-11

Eternity

We were created to exist forever, and every human will spend eternity either with God in the new heavens and new earth, or separated from him, which the Bible calls hell.

John 3:16, 1 John 2:25, John 5:11-13, Romans 6:23, Revelation 20:15

Salvation

Salvation comes as a result of believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who was crucified, died, and rose from the dead as a sufficient payment for the sins of man. Salvation is a free gift from God to all, and cannot be earned through our own efforts. It is only by trusting in Jesus Christ that we can be saved from an eternal separation from God. Eternal life begins the moment you receive Jesus Christ into your life through faith.

Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 1:12, John 14:16, Titus 3:5, Galatians 3:26, Romans 5:1

The Church

The Church is made up of the whole community of believers (both globally and in local congregations) who are unified through faith in Jesus Christ. The Church is committed to the teachings of Jesus Christ, which are found in the Bible. Members of the Church seek to share the hope of Christ to the world through love, good deeds, and the message of the Gospel.

Matthew 16:18-19, Matthew 18:15-20, Acts 2:41-47, Acts 5:11-14, Acts 13:1-3, Acts 14:23, Acts 16:5, Acts 20:28, 1 Corinthians 7:17, 1 Corinthians 9:13-14, 1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 5:22-32, Colossians 1:18, Colossians 3:15, 1 Timothy 4:14, 1 Peter 5:1-4, Revelation 21:2-3

Our Team

Meet Our Leaders

As co-Lead Pastors, Josh and Lisa are helping Seacoast Church realize God’s vision for what comes next. They are passionate about helping people find God, grow their faith, discover their purpose, and make a difference. Josh was raised in Charleston, South Carolina and attended the College of Charleston. Lisa and her family moved to Charleston shortly after Hurricane Hugo in 1989, so that her parents could assist with relief efforts.

Josh joined the Seacoast staff in 2001 and served in a number of roles before becoming Lead Pastor. Lisa graduated from MUSC with her masters in Physician Assistant Studies in 2006 and practiced emergency medicine for six years until she became the East Coast Director for the A21 Campaign. She now serves as co-Lead Pastor, focusing especially on creating a thriving staff culture.

Josh and Lisa have three children – Miles, Greta Kate, and Ellie. In his off-hours, Josh loves to cheer for all Chicago sports teams and the Clemson Tigers. Lisa loves to be outside, whether she is running, skiing, or doing just about anything on the water. She loves good food and may have a slight obsession with bulldogs.

Our Story

Seacoast Church began in an apartment clubhouse with 65 people in February of 1988. The vision was to reach the unchurched people of the Charleston area by building a church that spoke the language of the modern culture. It was to be a place where non-believers were encouraged to investigate Christianity at their own pace. Seacoast wanted to approach the historical Christian faith in a contemporary, unconventional way. We did so with a unique blend of incredible music and practical, biblical teaching that made the Gospel accessible to all people, no matter where they were in their spiritual journey.

The last three decades have been a wild ride as we’ve outgrown our spaces, moved into new ones, and then outgrown THOSE spaces. We helped pioneer the multisite movement, planting over a dozen campuses throughout South and North Carolina as well as a thriving online ministry. We’ve launched Dream Centers at multiple campuses and have vital ministry partners who are making an impact here and around the world. We are founding members of The Association of Related Churches (ARC), the home of the Chosen Women’s Conference and the Seacoast Music recording label. All of this has happened, not because we are anything special, but because of God "Who is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine." (Ephesians 3:20). And we believe he is just getting started.

The Counseling Center

We believe that no one should have to fight their battles alone. The Counseling Center at Seacoast exists to come alongside people in pain to help provide healing and clarity in the harder seasons of life. Our team of therapists take a biblically-integrated approach to help people better understand their pain and the freedom God offers.
